Hi everyone and welcome to my weekly blog feature to recap the week with bookish news and what to expect coming up! So without further ado...

This probably has to be one of my top three favourite dystopian series EVER and HarperCollins YA is doing a read-along for it using the hashtag #BTCBookClub. I'd definitely recommend this book and I can't wait for the release of the third in the trilogy 'In The Afterlight'!

*Book Haul*

  • Dissonance by Erica O'Rourke - The idea of parallel worlds sounds great in this one, so I'm really looking forward to it. Thank you to Simon and Schuster Australia for this copy!
  • The Sleeper and the Spindle by Neil Gaiman - I've read it this week because I couldn't resist delving into the pages with such pretty illustrations. Big thanks to Bloomsbury Australia for the copy to review :)
  • Belzhar by Meg Wolitzer - I won this from Brit at 'Crash My Book Party Reviews' and can't wait to start it!
*Movie Reactions*

I had read the book before going to see the movie, which I ended up loving. There were a few minor changes and things that weren't included, but overall the acting by Ben Affleck and Rosamund Pike really reflected the characters of Nick and Amy well, and the eerie music added to the tension and mystery of it all.

  1. Oh my god Genie you're reading The Bell Jar, I'm really jealous! I've been looking for it since I read Belzhar at the library and they don't have it so I'm so going to need your thoughts on it ASAP! I've never seen that cover for The Darkest Minds, but I'm glad you enjoyed watching Gone Girl, I still need to read it, so hopefully I like it! Great week Genie, good luck for next! :D

    1. I'll hopefully have time to post a review for it once I've finished it :) They didn't have it at my library either so I had to get it ordered in. Still, it's really good so far and the writing style flows really well. That cover of The Darkest Minds is the new Australian edition (although I own the other one with the girl's face on the front - which unfortunately doesn't match the rest of the paperbacks *sigh*) Anyway, hope you like Gone Girl :) Thanks for visiting Amanda!

  2. Ooh, I'm looking forward to seeing what you think of Belzhar--I keep reading really mixed review for it! I hope you'll like it, though. I'm looking forward to reading your thoughts. Dissonance also sounds FANTASTIC. :D Glad you liked Gone Girl--I've been meaning to go see that one but haven't found the time just yet.

    1. Same here for Belzhar, but I hope that the fact that I'm reading 'The Bell Jar' now which relates to it makes it more enjoyable with having that background info. I can't wait to start Dissonance either since reading A Thousand Pieces of You which also has that multi-verse aspect in it :)

  4. Oh The Bell Jar! I want to read that! Actually Belzhar is all about The Bell Jar, so that's very timely for you. x) I want to read the Neil Gaiman book!! YAHHHH!!! I love his stuff. Coraline is still my favourite, but Good Omens? I had to go back and give it 5-stars. XD

    1. Ooh I've heard of Coraline but not Dark Omens - I haven't read either of those but they do look promising so I might go check them out :)

  5. I've actually only read Plath's poetry and never considered The Bell Jar until after I'd read Belzhar. I hope you're enjoying it! I'm curious about Dissonance. The US cover is totally better though. This one is... :/ AND YES. THE DARKEST MINDS. It's glorious stuff, that.

    1. Lots of people seem to be asking about The Bell Jar, so I'll have a review up for it here once I've finished it :) YES - The Darkest Minds is soooo good! If you're into dystopias but are looking for something that's different from THT/Divergent then you should enjoy it :)

  7. I've never read The Bell Jar either, and after reading Belzhar I really need to buy a copy. I hope you've got the time to review it, would love to see what you think of it. I've been reading quite a few classics, but never review them. I really should start. The Sleeper and The Spindle looks so incredibly charming, I've read his Graveyard graphic novels and completely fell in love. Going to check out your review now.

Have a fabulous week poppet <3

    1. I will be reviewing it here Kelly so you can see what I make of it, but so far it's beautifully written and poignant. Nice to find another fan of the Graveyard Book graphic novels - and since you liked those you'd be sure to enjoy The Sleep and the Spindle :)

  8. Oh I really did enjoy The Bell Jar when I read it, I hope you enjoy it! It is such a different book, especially since it's based on a true story. So glad to hear you enjoyed Gone Girl, the music and soundtrack was definitely on point! Looks like you got some great books for review as well. Have a lovely week Genie!
