From V.E. Schwab, the critically acclaimed author of Vicious, comes a new universe of daring adventure, thrilling power, and parallel Londons, beginning with A Darker Shade of Magic.
Kell is one of the last Travelers—magicians with a rare, coveted ability to travel between parallel universes—as such, he can choose where he lands. There’s Grey London, dirty and boring, without any magic, ruled by a mad King George. Then there’s Red London, where life and magic are revered, and the Maresh Dynasty presides over a flourishing empire. White London, ruled by whoever has murdered their way to the throne—a place where people fight to control magic, and the magic fights back, draining the city to its very bones. And once upon a time, there was Black London...but no one speaks of that now.
Officially, Kell is the Red Traveler, personal ambassador and adopted Prince of Red London, carrying the monthly correspondences between the royals of each London. Unofficially, Kell is a smuggler, servicing people willing to pay for even the smallest glimpses of a world they’ll never see—a dangerous hobby, and one that has set him up for accidental treason. Fleeing into Grey London, Kell runs afoul of Delilah Bard, a cut-purse with lofty aspirations, who first robs him, then saves him from a dangerous enemy, and then forces him to spirit her to another world for a proper adventure.
But perilous magic is afoot, and treachery lurks at every turn. To save all of the worlds, Kell and Lila will first need to stay alive—and that is proving trickier than they hoped.

Sometimes it's nice to find a book with a cover that doesn't have all the glitz and glamour, but a vintage simplicity like this. The synopsis seems intriguing too!
Releasing 24th February 2015
IT's an interesting cover. I love the vintage feel that it has and that it is something not quite like most of the other covers which are around at the moment!
ReplyDeleteYes - I love how it's something that stands out from what we usually are seeing in the book world right now.
DeleteI LOVE this cover. I'm looking forward to reading it, too--I haven't yet read anything written by the author, but from the reviews I've seen, she's a really good writer. :) Such a fantastic choice. :D
ReplyDeleteI haven't either but I've had 'The Archived' on my TBR for aages - time to get to that soon I think!
DeleteOhh, yes, yes yes. I LOVE this cover. I love the vintage feel and the colour palette and the birds-eye view. I haven't read anything from this author yet, although I do have The Archived and Vicious on my TBR along with this one...I'm honestly tempted to just preorder this now so I know I'll definitely get this edition...Thanks for sharing, Genie! Also, I just found your blog button! For some reason I'm always blind and can never find yours. :( But now I have, so I can add it to my blogroll to look pretty. :)
ReplyDeleteYou're welcome Ebony, and glad you found the blog button okay! :)
DeleteThe cover is definitely an interesting one, it has an anime vibe about the character and I like how it's like an art style cover. Very unique and it makes me curious about the book inside!
ReplyDeleteIt's definitely intriguing - I can't wait to read the book itself now too :)
DeleteAgreed. V.E. Schwab tends to hit it on the nail with her adult books (cover and stories). I'm dying to acquire a copy of this one.
ReplyDeleteAn awesome story with an equally beautiful cover is always a fantastic combination! This one looks fantastic :)
