Book Tag: Top Ten Books That Have Stayed With Me

Monday 17 November 2014

Emily from The Loony Teen Writer tagged me for this post, so here are my top ten books that stayed with me.

The BFG by Roald Dahl

6319

This book holds such dear memories for me. It was one of my first Roald Dahl books after 'Danny the Champion of the World' which I read when I was about nine, and I'll never forget this one.

A Waltz for Matilda by Jackie French

9622286

I've probably mentioned this book so many times before, but it still stands in the top spot as one of my absolute favourites.

Slammed by Colleen Hoover

13372690

This book was so heartbreaking, yet heartwarming at the same time. It's a contemporary that's achingly emotional and so well-written.

The Great Gatsby by F. Scott Fitzgerald

4671

This is the first book I ever read on my e-reader, but aside from that Fitzgerald's lyrical prose and the story itself stuck with me.

Jane Eyre by Charlotte Bronte

385989

This is another classic I've read and loved, and I'm hoping Wuthering Heights by Emily Bronte is as good!

The Book Thief by Markus Zusack

19064

I cried my eyes out in this one, and its beautiful writing and moving storyline is one I will never forget.

Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone by J.K. Rowling

72193

It was love at first page with this one.

I Capture the Castle by Dodie Smith

15833921

I just really loved the setting in this one and how it is a story of self-discovery and coming of age.

Genesis by Lara Morgan

9303291

This is the first book in my absolute favourite YA sci-fi series and I've already re-read it a few times.

The End of Everything by Megan Abbott

9596460

Megan Abbott is so talented when it comes to writing these darker stories with an undercurrent that is hard to miss. This is one that stuck with me because it's such a poignant insight into what teenagers can be like.

  3. Gosh--I really need to read Slammed! Another book I've been hearing such great things about. I've read another of the author's novels before, but it wasn't really for me; however, I'm definitely interested to see what else she writes. I can't believe I haven't read The Book Thief, either. O.o

    1. YEES! It's such a fantastic contemporary read. The Book Thief is also another emotional one, and one of my favourite pieces of YA historical fiction.

  4. Great list! I've been meaning to read Slammed for a while and this makes me even more keen :) HP made it to my list too (shock horror!) and so did The Book Thief. I adore the BFG, I think I need to track down my Roald Dahl books and refresh my memory - I don't care if they're children's books, they're a part of me dammit!

  7. Oh, yes, The Book Thief has definitely stuck with me although I only read it this year. And Roald Dahl too! I LOVE his books. I read them all when I was a lot older than the intended audience, but heh...I still love them. Matilda is probably my all time favourite. ^-^

  9. Gosh I'm slack. Must admit, the only one of those I've read is Slammed, and I think book two was more influential for me. I plan on reading a few classics and The Boof Thief over Christmas when I have a handle on my review copies, just bought a whole stack of classics from Bookworld. Love the choices poppet! <3 Thanks for sharing.

    1. I loved book two as well, especially with how the 'butterfly' came into things. Christmas holidays will definitely be my time to catch up on books as well - there are so many more classics I hope to get to soon! Thanks for stopping by Kelly :)

  11. Oh, goodness. I've only read The Book Thief and Harry Potter. Looks like I need to get my reading gear on and get to some of these titles!

Although, I'm pretty sure I read BFG when I was a kid. That, or I am confusing it with my cartoon version that I watched to death. I know that I loved it a ridiculous amount. I bought it not that long ago, so that should be easy to rectify :D

  12. The one book that will always stay with me is The Sea of Tranquillity. I really loved that one when I read it so long ago! And yes! The BFG. Along with all his other books.

I really need to read Slammed and The Book Thief!
