Top Ten Tuesday: Hyped Books I've Never Read

Tuesday 7 July 2015

Top Ten Tuesday is a weekly feature hosted by bloggers at The Broke and the BookishThis week I've  picked the top ten books with all the hype which I just haven't read yet.

1. Throne of Glass by Sarah J. Maas

16034235

I know, I know - how can this be!? BUT now that I have bought myself a copy I'm keen to start it.

2. On the Jellicoe Road by Melina Marchetta

2999475

I have read Looking for Alibrandi, but this is a Marchetta novel I know I have to read.

3. Eleanor and Park by Rainbow Rowell

17204095

Anything by Rainbow Rowell seems to get lots of hype, and yet even after I liked Fangirl I still haven't gotten to this one.

4. The Selection by Kiera Cass

10507293

Though the pretty dresses make for a nice cover, the main character having the name 'America Singer' could make it difficult to take her seriously. HOWEVER, my sister is reading and absolutely loving the series right now so maybe I will too.

5.The Raven Boys by Maggie Stiefvater

17675462

I have heard so many good things about this series in general, so I must read it soon, yes?

6. Vampire Academy by Richelle Mead

18660669

I did try to read this once but I just couldn't get into it. Hence, it remains unread.

7. The Distance Between Us by Kasie West

15283043

I haven't read this, or anything by Kasie West by that matter - but I know her contemporary YA is popular and it sounds promising.

8. Aristotle and Dante Discover the Secrets of the Universe by Benjamin Alire Saenz

12000020

This has been on my shelf for sooo long, and I've only heard so much praise for it - I guess I'm saving it for when I need something I'm almost 100% sure I'll like.

9. The Girl on the Train by Paula Hawkins

21840310

This book has gotten a lot of hype as a thriller this year - I do want to know what all the fuss it about.

10. Allegiant by Veronica Roth

17383918

SHOCKER I KNOW. Thing is, after it got spoiled for me and I've heard that it isn't that great compared to the rest of the series, I simply haven't been motivated to pick it up. I will definitely read it before the movie comes out though since I want to compare it.

What's the book with the most hype you haven't read yet?

  2. You... you haven't read ToG. *faints* Ha ha, kidding. But I love those books dearly, so I hope you enjoy it! Ahh, I recommend giving The Selection a chance! Some people like it. Others don't. But they're so. Much. FUN. Great list!!

    1. I know! I do really want to read it and love it so fingers crossed :) It's good to hear that The Selection is fun at least, that does make me more likely to pick it up.

  3. THRONE OF GLASS! Wew, that's one truly hyped book, and I'm glad you'll be picking it up soon. I hope you enjoy it. The series just gets better and better and better. Kasie West delivers the perfect YA contemporaries although I wouldn't say the same for her latest release. D:

    1. I love a series that gets even better as it goes on! Sad to hear you don't like Kasie West's newest book, I think I'll start with some of her earlier ones then.

  4. You know, I haven't read any of these! I've heard many good things about them, but at least for me, they hardly pique my interest. Still, if you do decide to read any of these, I hope you enjoy them. :)

  5. I wouldn't bother will Allegiant. If I could go back and unread it, I wish I had of stayed blissfully unaware. It was only this year when I read the Throne of Glass series too, although the first time I'd read book one a few years ago, I hated it. Funny how your tastes in books change. You definitely need to read Aristotle and Dante Discover the Secrets of the Universe though. It's one of the loveliest and most poignant coming of ages I've ever had the pleasure of reading. The feels! Really looking forward to seeing what you think of that one.

Thanks for sharing poppet, great choices <3

    1. Yeah, I've heard the same about Allegiant...on one hand I *want* to complete the series, but I just don't have the motivation to. It definitely is interesting how our tastes/likes/dislikes for books can change. Ooh glad to hear you loved Ari and Dante!

  6. Oh my GOSH, Eugenia, HOW HAVE YOU NOT READ ARISTOTLE AND DANTE??????? I'd have been pestering you much more if I knew that! Also The Distance Between Us and Eleanor and Park are excellent. Of course I'm pointing out all the contemporary ones...

  8. Some of these are absolute MUSTS. Throne of Glass, please read it hun!! I haven't read anything by Melina Marchetta either. I think we're missing out... I liked The Raven Boys. It was much different than I thought it would be. VA and The Distance Between Us are both so fun! I think you'd like them :) Nice picks <3

    1. I will Rachel - Throne of Glass is definitely a must-read for me especially since there's a Sarah J. Maas event here in November! You have me intrigued about The Raven Boys and Vampire Academy even more now :)

  9. AHHHHH Yes read Jellicoe Road! It's the only contemporary of hers that I've read (though I have all of them, I think), but it really is worth the read and I think you'd enjoy it. (I can't remember... have you read The Lumatere Chronicles? That series... OH MAN.)

  10. Throne of Glass and Ari & Dante are my favourites on your list! I really loved Raven Boys as well, although that one requires 100% attention span lol. I guess it kind of sucks that you got spoiled for Allegiant, but then again I wasn't the biggest fan so it's not the greatest loss ;)

    1. All these positive reactions to Throne of Glass have definitely confirmed for me that it's a must-read ASAP, especially with the Sarah J, Maas events coming up near the end of the year! I loved ACOTAR so I hope I love that too :) I think I'll be saving The Raven Boys for after HSC so I can really concentrate on it/absorb it all from the sounds of things. I hope to read Allegiant by the end of the year...but I can't say it's my highest priority now since the consensus seems to be it's not too good *sigh*.

  11. Ooooh I haven't read The Raven boys either! I need to jump on that ASAP clearly. Hmm Throne of Glass... I quite liked it but I had a lot of criticisms haha but CROWN OF MIDNIGHT IS GLORIOUS. I thought you already read this series so I am surprised!

    Great list, girly <33

    1. I have seen that Throne of Glass has gotten some mixed reception, but it's good to hear that the series does get better regardless!

  12. All of these are still on my TBR, with the exception of Throne of Glass (I struggled with the first half of that book and nearly didn't finish it, but the second half is a zillion times better). Sometimes it's a case of too many books, not enough time...and the dreaded too much hype issue, which puts me off reading sometimes :(

When you do get to all of these, I hope you love them; and that they're worth the wait :)

    1. I'll keep that in mind if I find it hard to begin with (though I'm hoping I'll love it anyway).
There definitely isn't enough time to read EVERYTHING out there *if only*.
Thanks for stopping by Wattle :)

  13. AHHH I HOPE YOU READ THE RAVEN BOYS AND THRONE OF GLASS!! They're like two of my top favourite books and authors of ever. omg, but I forgot all about the Girl on the Train! I know, like, nothing about that book but I see it everywhere. I MUST CHECK IT OUT TOO.

    1. Me too Cait - and then we can fangirl together! I'm still not 100% clear on what The Girl on the Train entails myself (it does have that aura of mystery around it), though I do hope to get to it soon once the reservations on it die down a bit.

  14. Eleanor and Park was such a great book. I actually enjoyed that one more than Fangirl. The Girl On the Train was an excellent book as well. It was very suspenseful.
