Top Ten Tuesday: Bookish Problems

Tuesday, 17 February 2015

Top Ten Tuesday is a weekly feature hosted by bloggers at The Broke and the BookishThis week I'm sharing with you some bookish problems that we all can encounter....

1. NOT ENOUGH TIME TO READ.

This is a constant problem. Can I borrow Hermione's time turner please?

2. Not enough space for all your books.

When the bookshelves are full it's time to get creative with book storage.

3. An ereader dying on you right in the middle of that pivotal chapter

This has happened to me a few times, and it's the reason why I still believe it's paper FTW.

4. Lending a book to someone and it does not come back in the same condition

Please take care of my babies okay?

5. Having high expectations for a book and you end up not liking it

This can happen for those really 'hyped up' books and although the majority may love it, you might not and feel like a black sheep.

6. SPOILERS

.

Someone (I can't remember who) ruined Allegiant for me and so I still haven't found the motivation to read it.

7. When your favourite character dies and you have to take time to grieve

If you find me sobbing with a book in my hands, this is why.

8. Not being able to put your fangirling into words and write a coherent review.

Sometimes all you want to say is 'just read it!'

9. Trying to get over a book hangover/book slump

Finding that next big thing in your bookish life can be hard.

10. Coming across people who don't understand the magic of books

I touched on this is a previous discussion post - more people need to experience the amazing thing that is reading a good book!

What are some of your bookish problems?

  1. Gah, Allegiant. Don't even get me started on that book!! I don't blame you for not having the motivation for reading it--and in all honesty, though I wasn't spoiled for it, I wasn't fond of that novel. But seriously, spoilers are THE WORST. Amazing list! I agree with every single one of them. :) Also, great gif choices!

    1. Yeah, I've heard from some people that it really didn't hit the mark. Glad you like the gifs :)

  2. For the first time in years, I can now say that I currently have more than enough storage for books. I had to turn a spare room into a library, but I've now got so much more room. It's glorious. I had my Kindle die once, with only 10% in the book I was reading to go. Never again. As soon as it reaches less than 30% battery now, I put it on the charge. The battery drains really quickly when you turn the screen brightness up on mine.

For me though, that book slump is the worse. It really makes you not want to read or review. I've had a great run of late, but worry about when my luck finally runs out. I'm saving ACOTAR for when the slump starts to emerge. No doubt that'll pull me right out. Awesome post Eugenia <3

    1. Having a room dedicated to a library is my DREAM. Haha good idea for saving ACOTAR for that boost when you need it - it sounds amazing so it should work well to kick-start reading again :)

  3. We shared some of our bookish problems haha! Book slumps are the worst but like Kelly I've avoided them as of late. So jealous of anyone who has enough room for all their books!

    1. Haha there you go - I guess there are some problems that plague a lot of us when it comes to books. Luckily I haven't had a book slump in a while either (fingers crossed it keeps going well!)

  4. YES to all the things you said. I don't know where to put my books anymore - I don't have room for new shelves and I also don't have room on the shelves I currently own. And all my books HAVE to be in my room, I will not put up a bookshelf somewhere else in the house with my babies on it. No. No. No. And while I love to push people to read certain books, I hate when they give the book back and the spine is broken for example. But even worse, I try to push people to read and they just don't want to. WHY? What could be better than reading a book? Great post!

    1. Oh no! That lack of space does sound like a problem! I know what you mean, more people need to discover just how amazing books are :)

  5. THIS WEEK's TTT is SPOT ON. I've been reading a few of them and HONESTLY, they are completely true.

I've dealt with spoilers and usually it ends with a bunch of caps lock and middle finger gifs. What evil person could spoil another? THIS IS MADNESS.

Slumps are my life so I don't even let it be a problem anymore.

But the whole "TOO MANY BOOKS" thing is SO TRUE. I've got books in my closet and in strange places because if the amount of space my shoebox room has. It's actually so sad.

    1. Spoilers are bad because they really can ruin the reading experience for someone else which is sad :( Hope you can get out of the slumps with something amazing!

  6. Oh my word, yes. I've experience every single one of these. A book doesn't even have to leave the house to come back to me damaged. It's quite sad. Luckily, none of my books have been harmed too greatly though.

I am encountering the "not enough room" thing right now. It's seriously cramping my spending style. And THE TIME. I wish I had more time to read!

    1. At least like you said there haven't been any major book casualties. We need to invent a time machine ASAP to create more hours in the day to read!

  7. YES YES TO ALL OF THESE. And I've had an ereader die while I was in a desperate scene! Someone got STABBED and then -- boom -- black out. I was really really angry. I usually keep my iPod charged too so...let me go grumble forever.
And not being able to adequately sum of feeling sin a review? The struggle is HUGE and it is real.

    1. Dude the ereader dying is probably THE WORST one of them all. I've had that happen as well and it sucks because then you have to wait like 15 minutes for it to have enough power to turn back on! *pouts*

    2. That is the worst! It just shows that you need to have a charger always on hand - and paper books just don't suffer from that problem. #paperwins

  8. Such a great list! I had some of these on mine. A few months ago, my power went out and my Kindle was dwindling to 20%. Arghhh. I was 75% of the way through an awesome book too! That was scary.

    1. Thanks Cynthia :) This ereader dying thing seems to be a really common problem! If only there was a way for it to replenish its power another way - like for each page you read it actually charges (not like that would ever work, but it's a thought)

  9. TOTALLY AGREE. ESP the having high expectations bit. MY EXPECTATIONS ARE HARDLY EVER MET AND IT KILLS ME INSIDE

    1. At least when something TRULY FABULOUS comes your way then the rest of us know it must be reaaaaly good :) My expectations vary, but I try to go in open minded to things and hope for the best.

  10. I have all of these problems, but not enough time is one of my major ones. School is a time eater, and I always feel like crying when I come back from any extracurriculars and then finish my homework at 10 or 11 pm and have not time to read. Okay, maybe not crying, but sad that my precious books are being neglected. And I really can not deal with people who do not read. I do not understand that because reading is like breathing to me, and people who don't like to read might as well be speaking a foreign language I don't understand.

    1. I definitely can see where you're coming from Ana - school/study definitely take up a big chunk of my routine right now - you're not alone! Gah it does annoy me when people dismiss reading on a superficial basis - you can't knock it till you've tried it in my opinion.
