I was recently tagged by Chiara @ Books for a Delicate Eternity to do this post, so here it is!
Unfortunately yes - but I do seem to be okay on trains, and even buses sometimes.
2. Which author’s writing style is completely unique to you and why?
I just love Megan Abbott's writing style, her prose is full of evocative imagery and it makes all her stories memorable.
3. Harry Potter Series or the Twilight Saga? Give 3 points to defend your answer.
I've read all the Harry Potter books, and watched all the movies. But when it comes to Twilight I only read the first three books and watched the first two movies...so Harry Potter Wins.
And why you may ask? Well:
1) It doesn't need sparkly vampires to make interesting characters
2) Cedric Diggory as we knew him was murdered by Twilight
3) Better writing. Better movies. Better storyline in general.
4. Do you carry a book bag? If so, what is in it (besides books)?
I don't have one especially for that all the time, but when I go to bookish events I'll definitely bring mine along! This is it:
5. Do you smell your books?
Sometimes yes, sometimes no - some library books have their own distinct scent though (good or bad!)
6. Books with or without little illustrations?
For me it depends whether they serve a purpose and add something to the reading experience/story.
7. What book did you love while reading but discovered later it wasn’t quality writing?
I feel like this is one of the obvious ones - but Twilight is my pick. It was my first proper glimpse into YA. At the time I read it I was only around 10, and it excited me just because it was *the* 'in' thing then and the hype persuaded me. Not anymore.
8. Do you have any funny stories involving books from your childhood? Please share!
Not that I can think of really...But I do have a good memory of my whole class reading Danny, the Champion of the World together outside on a beautiful sunny day. It was a good moment, and I still love Roald Dahl books!
9. What is the tiniest book on your shelf?
It's a little copy of 'The Best Poems Ever', but I really want a tiny version of Pride and Prejudice or The Great Gatsby just because they would look cute.
10. What is the thickest book on your shelf?
Little Women. It's a big hardback edition which is taking up a lot of space on my classics shelf!
11. Do you write as well as read? Do you see yourself in the future as being an author?
I do sometimes, and in the future - who knows?
12. When did you get into reading?
I was always a little bookworm - I remember my parents reading to me when I was young and still have the picture books I used to love!
13. What is your favourite classic book?
This is a hard one...Jane Eyre is a definite favourite, but so is The Great Gatsby,
14. In school what was your best subject?
English has always had a special place for me.
15. If you were given a book as a present that you had read before and hated, what would you do?
Try to give it away to someone else who I think may like it? Otherwise donate it to the library.
16. What is a lesser known series that you know of that is similar to Harry Potter or the Hunger Games?
In terms of dystopia, the 'Exalted' series by Tara Elizabeth does have *some* Hunger Games traits, but still stands out on its own. 'The Forsaken' by Lisa M. Stasse also rings a bell.
17. What is a bad habit you always do while blogging?
At times getting distracted by the books I'm meant to be blogging about. Well my desk is right next to my bookshelf...
18. What is your favorite word?
It does vary, though right now I'm liking vanguard.
19. Are you a nerd, dork, or dweeb? Or all of the above?
Must we resort to these labels? If I had to choose - nerd.
20. Vampires or Fairies? Why?
Fairies because of the wings - but then again vampires can be sparkly so...
Forbidden love - love triangles are rarely done well. And who doesn't like reading about the drama of two lovers overcoming all the obstacles against them?
25. And finally: Full on romance books or action-packed with a few love scenes mixed in?
I love a good action-packed novel as much as the next person, but sometimes it's nice to have something cute and mushy. Each have their place, and a mix of both can be nice.

20. Vampires or Fairies? Why?
Fairies because of the wings - but then again vampires can be sparkly so...
BUT I think after the point I made above (re. Harry Potter vs. Twilight) - fairies win (or should I say faeries?).
21. Shapeshifters or Angels? Why?
Angels - they look pretty good with the halos going on.
22. Spirits or Werewolves? Why?
uhhhhh...werewolves? - Good to play 'fetch' with.
23. Zombies or Vampires? Why?
Don't know how I feel about 'The Walking Dead', so in that case Vampires. (it's the lesser of two evils in this case).
24. Love Triangle or Forbidden Love?

*Sigh* Blair and Chuck, I hope you work things out. |

EXCELLENT MORE TAGS THANK YOU :D I do feel sorry for people who can't read in the car :( I don't know what I would do if that was me!! Also, fairies definitely beat vampires every time ;)
ReplyDeleteYou're lucky you can Emily! I really wish I could - I would get so much more reading done.
DeleteGreat post Eugenia! I'm relived not to be the only bookworm cursed with travel sickness, such a pain! I also loved Twilight until realising it probably wasn't the best thing I'd ever read.
ReplyDeleteThanks Sunny! Yeah, I have a very different reaction to Twilight now in hindsight.
DeleteI get SO sick reading in the car. I don't know about Aussie, but when I tried reading on the trains in Hong Kong/Japan/Singapore, I felt like reading while sitting down. ;)
ReplyDeleteI love your bookish tote! I only have one which my grandma gifted me and it's heavy even without the books so I don't bring it along with me anywhere...
I love it when parents expose their kids to books at such a young age! I'd be that kind of parent who forces her kids to read everything, haha! My parents weren't like that though, so it wasn't until my pre-teen years that I got into reading.
"Werewolves? - Good to play 'fetch' with." I LOVE THIS.
Thanks for sharing, Eugenia! And thanks so much for tagging me. ^_^
We're lucky here in Australia that there are lots of seats on trains (and there's two levels per carriage) so it's a pretty good place to read. Looking forward to seeing your post :)
DeleteUgh, this is why I prefer listening to graphic audios when I'm in a car... I just can't read in a moving vehicle, and I oftentimes take 12 hour trips to the country and I don't want to waste it looking at passing trees! Haha. It's different in a plane, though. I can read just as well in trains.
ReplyDeleteI'm currently writing something on Wattpad! I'm enjoying it so far, and I made Kelly and Paula read it and they've liked it so I think I'm doing something good hahaha.
Faye at The Social Potato
Ooh that's exciting about writing a new story! Hope it all goes well Faye :)
DeleteAh, motion sickness sucks :/ I mostly just fall asleep or stare out the window and be a "thinking about life" meme ha because reading is just too difficult to focus on then. Roald Dahl books are precious and so great for kids and adults and anyone to read.
ReplyDeleteNerd, dork, or dweeb though, what is the difference? They always sounded synonymously about a "socially inept" person who's really smart...
Haha exactly - maybe audiobooks could solve that problem so perhaps then we could 'read' in the car. Hmm you're right about the Nerd/dork/dweeb thing - they all do have basically the same meaning, and aren't exactly nice labels anyway (though it depends on the context). Thanks for stopping by :)
DeleteYay for this tag :D I hope you had fun.
ReplyDeleteUGH I hate not being able to read in a moving vehicle. But seriously, I look down at my phone for five seconds and my body is just like WHAT DO YOU THINK YOU'RE DOING. LOOK AWAY. NOW.
Your book bag is super gorgeous, and I want. XD
Awh, I remember when my grade six teacher started reading the Deltora Quest novels in class, and EVERYONE loved them. I loved them so much, I went out and bought them and read them all before the teacher got through, like, the first one, HAHA. Good times.
I really need to read Jane Eyre and The Great Gatsby. I went through a classics reading phase a few years ago, but they never made it to my list. Maybe I need to do a repeat and get to all the ones I didn't last time.
Forbidden love all the way. love triangles exhaust me to NO END.
I definitely enjoyed doing this post! I know what you mean - and then it takes a while for your brain to go 'okay we're not reading that anymore, let's adjust again'.
DeleteIt's great that you were inspired to read the Deltora Quest novels that way, I haven't read them myself but I may check them out!
Jane Eyre and The Great Gatsby are both amazing classics which are quite easy to read, I hope you get to them soon :)
So many questions here! I love that when you are blogging you get distracted by the books on your shelf. It would be such a bookworm related things to do - even when you are supposed to be blogging about said books.
ReplyDeleteHaha it is - at least I can say it's not *too* far off from what I'm meant to be doing ;)
DeleteYES. I do get sick in the car. Hehe and I'm Still in love with Twilight and Harry Potter so that is almost an IMPOSSIBLE question for me. Hehe great tag girl and interesting answers♡
ReplyDeleteSome of these questions were pretty difficult! Thanks Keionda :)
