The YA sci-fi novels by Australian authors represent some of the best I've ever read. They present characters who are pushed to their very limits - at the end of the tether holding them to earth, as well as into the dark reaches of the universe beyond. 

Disruption Duology by Jessica Shirvington

In a future where technology has evolved to the point where big businesses drive how people live their lives, and 'M-Bands' are all the rage, Jessica Shirvington's high-octane duology doesn't miss a beat. Maggie the protagonist is the perfect combination of snarky and whip-smart, and her personal quest to find out what happened to her father and bring down the bad guys is full of edge-of-your-seat action. Read Disruption and as soon as you finish the last page you'll *need* to get right onto the next book Corruption - it's that good.

Illuminae by Amie Kaufman and Jay Kristoff

ALL THE HYPE is probably one of the best ways to describe this book, and I'm sure it's going to feature on many lists for this week's prompt...but why shouldn't it? It is mind-blowingly amazing after all. Unconventional, heart-stopping and oh-so-addictive...if you haven't read this yet, finish reading this sentence and then get yourself a copy!

Genesis by Lara Morgan

There will always be a special place on my all-time favourites shelf for The Rosie Black Chronicles by Lara Morgan. The first book in the trilogy, Genesis, was published back in 2010, but even with all the shiny new releases in the genre since then ,it has stood the test of time as a memorable and truly gripping saga. From the very first page the thrill begins, and the momentum never wavers.

Genie's Weekly News (47)

I have been in a bit of a blogging slump recently. however I have been trying my best to find more time to read. Work has been very busy in the lead up to Christmas, and it's definitely good to see lots of people buying books for people as gifts! I'm still waiting on getting my new computer, though once I do hopefully there'll be more of a routine back on the blog. In some ways, I think it's been good having a bit of a break in this period of adjustment post-school, post-results. I hope to come back to the blogosphere fully and comment on all your fabulous posts soon!

I've definitely been excited about the new books I've gotten in the last couple of weeks, some of which I've bought and others for review. Thicker Than Water sounds darkly atmospheric already, and I'm currently reading through Sylvia Plath's journals now and then. It's really fascinating to have even a tiny glimpse into her life and what her thoughts were.

Though I didn't get through all the books I had hoped, I still had a few stunning reads from what I did get through, especially November 9. Illuminae looks like it'll be getting a high rating from me as well!

Top Ten Tuesday: Books on my Spring TBR

Top Ten Tuesday is a weekly feature hosted by bloggers at The Broke and the Bookish. The flowers are out, there is more sunny weather ahead, and I have all these books to look forward to!

1. Illuminae by Amie Kaufman and Jay Kristoff 




OF COURSE this is at the top of my list! It has to be my most anticipated release of the year.

2. A Thousand Nights by E.K. Johnston





Though I've seen some mixed reviews of this one, I have an ARC and am looking forward to starting it soon.

3. Blood and Salt by Kim Ligget





A weird, creepy horror/romance? I'm definitely intrigued by this one.

4. Asking for It by Louise O'Neill

I've been wanting to read one of this author's books for a long time, and along with Only Ever Yours, I hope to read this soon as well. 

5.The White Rose by Amy Ewing 

I actually ended up enjoying The Jewel and can't wait to see what happens in this sequel!

6. Ten Thousand Skies Above You by Claudia Gray 

A Thousand Pieces of You was A-MAZING, so bring on the sequel I say! I'll be rewarding myself with this one after my final exams are over. 

7. A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms by George R.R. Martin

Confession: No I haven't read the original A Song of Ice and Fire series *yet* BUT since this is set beforehand it might be a good place to start?

8. The Next Together by Lauren James 

This one sounds like a romantic, captivating read - I'm looking forward to starting my ARC soon since I've heard good things already!

9. The Taming of the Queen by Philippa Gregory

I've been in another historical mood reading-wise, so this looks quite interesting. 

10. Restless by William Boyd




I recently watched the TV adaptation of this book on Netflix which was quite good, but am curious as to how different it is from the book.
